The City of Casa Grande is blending blooms and awareness in their upcoming Children's Flower Garden Event, scheduled for Thursday, October 31st at the City Hall Plaza flower garden. The annual event, which commences at 10:00 a.m. at 510 E. Florence Blvd, is a community effort to remember young victims of abuse and to fortify the fight against this persistent issue.
Known as a symbol of hope and recovery, the flower garden stands as an educational tool that transcends the simple act of planting. "Gardening is not only a beneficial physical activity but also an educational experience that teaches children the importance of nurturing living things," Terry Montijo, Victim Services Coordinator, said in a statement from the City of Casa Grande's official announcement. The event will feature contributions from local schools, including Cottonwood Elementary and Saguaro Elementary School, as well as performances by Casa Grande Union High School spirit and music groups.
With over half a million instances of child abuse reported annually in the U.S., per statistics from the National Children’s Alliance cited by the City of Casa Grande, the garden planting activity aims not just to educate but also to heal. The data paints a harrowing picture, with investigations launched into the well-being of millions of children each year, and infants being disproportionately affected.
The annual event also serves as a platform for collaboration between various local entities. Artistic Land Management, Inc., is the noted sponsor, and organizations such as Against Abuse, Inc., and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sun Corridor are participating. The latter will be handing out inspirational pin buttons, and a display of pinwheels to symbolize child abuse prevention will be featured. The Casa Grande Fire Department will also join, providing not just fire safety insights but giveaways for the children.
At a broader level, the City Attorney’s Office Victim Services Program continues to support affected families with vital services, ranging from assistance on domestic violence to practical guidance on navigating the criminal justice process.
