In a blend of sustainability and seasonal festivities, the City of Chanhassen, Minnesota is spearheading an initiative to re-purpose Halloween pumpkins as nourishment for farm animals. Following the trick-or-treating and Jack-o'-lantern displays, residents have the opportunity to give back to their agrarian neighbors and contribute to a closed-loop gesture of giving.
From November 1 through 15, locals are invited to literally drop off their pumpkins at a designated dumpster located at the Public Works Facility. The facility will be open specifically for this cause from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday. However, in an effort to protect the welfare of the intended recipients, the city has issued a straightforward plea: "Please help protect the farm animals and do not throw trash in with the pumpkins," as stated by the City of Chanhassen's official government Facebook page.
