An extensive outage affecting Microsoft's suite of services, including the Outlook email client, Microsoft Teams, and Office 365, has left many users unable to access their accounts and collaborate. Reports of the service disruptions began surfacing around 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, with users facing unprecedented downtime. The New York Post detailed that the problems users are encountering stem from what Microsoft has identified as "a potential memory management issue which may be responsible for causing impact."
Microsoft's investigation is currently focused on gathering crucial data from these occurrences. "We're obtaining memory dumps and logs from Outlook client telemetry data for analysis to determine our next steps," said a company spokesperson, according to information provided by the New York Post.
The interruption has caused inconvenience across the global user base of Microsoft services, with reports emerging on platforms like X of the Outlook app freezing, high memory usage, and server crashes. The KVUE report included Microsoft's statement that detailed their approach: "We're analyzing data from customers experiencing crashes and high memory usage when using the New Outlook desktop app."
Microsoft has yet to provide an estimate on when a full resolution is expected but has affirmed that they are working diligently on a solution. "We're reviewing the service telemetry and reproducing internally to develop a mitigation plan," Microsoft expressed, in a statement obtained by KVUE.
