The City's Stormwater Management Division is reaching out to local schools and educators, rolling out an invite to the Stormtalker Education Program. This initiative is aimed at equipping students with essential knowledge about stormwater pollution, its impact on ecosystems, and water quality concerns that touch all corners of our lives.
The program seeks to inform young minds about the journey of stormwater, from the rain that falls on the concrete to the vast ocean, and every stop in between. According to the City of Arlington, they've lined up presentations touching on a variety of topics. These include the implications of stormwater pollutants, the natural functions of floodplains, storm drainage systems, and the vital habitats of native pollinators and aquatic life. These sessions are not just for information, but also for meeting TEKS biology and social studies standards.
Among the presentations offered by the program are titles like "All the Way to the Ocean," "Journey Through the Storm Drain," and others designed to engage students in a comprehensive tour of their local environment's water cycle. "Be Flood Prepared!" focuses on the critical topic of flood safety and awareness, equipping kids with the knowledge to navigate such incidents safely. The breadth of the curriculum is considerable, offering students a clear look at how the actions of individuals and communities can directly affect local and broader ecological systems.
