Clay County is set for major roadway updates as the Bonded Transportation Program begins a series of projects to improve traffic flow and safety for the growing population. Notably, CR-220 will be expanded to four lanes in both Phase 1 and Phase 2, from Hollars Place to Knight Boxx Road, including a new four-lane bridge over Little Black Creek. These improvements, announced by the county government, are expected to start before the end of 2024 and may cause some detours and traffic delays, according to the Clay County.
For those using main roads, construction work on Eagle Harbor Parkway will begin tomorrow at 7:00 AM, with east and westbound lane closures from Town Center Boulevard to US 17 until 3:30 PM. This work may continue into October 30. Motorists are advised to prepare for changes in their commutes, follow detours, and adjust to the closures, as reported by the Clay County.
Moody Avenue is set for a 90-day drainage system repair starting October 29 due to damage from heavy rainfall. A 1.6-mile detour route will redirect traffic via Connie Circle, Meadow Drive, and other local roads. This project is part of several planned updates to county infrastructure, including road widening and reconstruction to improve vehicle and pedestrian access.
Ongoing projects such as the County Road 209 expansion, County Road 218 reconstruction, and Sandridge Road improvement are expected to be completed by 2025 or 2026. The county asks drivers to "slow down and use caution around the crews working close to the roadway," especially during 24-hour single-lane closures on Sandridge Road and nighttime lane closures on CR 220 for water main installation. Nighttime roadwork is also planned at the U.S. 17 at I-295 West Beltway, with on-ramp closures on select nights. Additionally, construction on the First Coast Expressway south includes new bridges, tolling facilities, and road expansions valued at $180 million, as stated by the Clay County.
