Residents of Crossville and Roane County, be prepared to briefly adjust your plans if they involve the local driver services centers. In a recent announcement by the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, these locations are set to close for a single day as they gear up to install spanking new credentialing equipment and user-friendly self-service kiosks.
The Crossville Driver Services Center, located at 136 Dooley Street in Crossville, will be taking a day off on Monday, Oct. 14, only to quickly bounce back on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Similarly, Roane County's Driver Services at the Roane County Clerk, found at 200 E Race Street Suite 2 in Kingston, will temporarily close its doors on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and is scheduled to promptly reopen the following day.
But it's not just those two locations getting the high-tech treatment. The upgrade wave is hitting several more centers across the state next week, including the Athens, Chattanooga/Bonny Oaks, Chattanooga/Red Bank, and Cleveland Driver Services Centers, as well as the Bradley, Grundy, Hamilton, McMinn, Monroe, Polk, Rhea, and Sequatchie County Clerk Driver Services partner locations.
Once the upgrades are in place, citizens can expect to smoothly utilize these self-service kiosks for a multitude of tasks. These range from renewing or replacing licenses and ID cards to changing addresses and updating emergency contact info. Plus, these new pieces of tech have the functionality to take photographs for credentials and quickly process payments through various modern means such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, or any credit or debit card.
