The City of Dearborn, in collaboration with the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council (DAWVC), is calling for nominations for the 2024-2025 Veteran of the Year award. Individuals are encouraged to recognize veterans who have notably contributed to the local community and supported veterans' interests. The nomination period is open until Friday, Oct. 25 with multiple avenues for submission, including in person and by email, according to City of Dearborn.

To be eligible for the award, veterans must belong to a DAWVC-associated organization, be actively engaged in voluntary community service, and engage in advocacy or activities that benefit veterans. While nominees are not mandated to reside in Dearborn, their involvement within the community remains a pivotal criterion for consideration. Forms for nominations can be downloaded from the City’s website or picked up at the Dearborn Administrative Center.

This annual award is scheduled to be presented at the Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11, an event that honors military service and community dedication. Interested parties can direct their nominations to [email protected] or deliver them to the DAC. More information about the nomination process and the award can be found on the City of Dearborn’s website through the provided link Dearborn.gov/Veterans.

Last year's recognition was awarded to David Kline, an Army veteran and a local of Dearborn. He was honored for his extensive military service and his ongoing commitment to the veterans within Southeast Michigan.
