Officials reported that last night's blaze at Midtown Towers, located at 643 Liberty Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh, was swiftly contained. Firefighters called to the scene around 6:45 p.m. and found heavy smoke pouring from a 13th-floor apartment. They quickly extinguished the fire, which remained confined to that single suite, preventing further damage.
The prompt action ensured no injuries were sustained, and residents were allowed to return to their homes. According to a notice by Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter, the occupants of the fire-damaged apartment and another below it affected by water damage have been offered temporary accommodations within the building roads that were previously closed due to emergency response activities have since been re-opened, easing the congestion caused by the incident.
During the evacuations, Pittsburgh Police coordinated with the Port Authority to provide a bus for residents in need of shelter while The Salvation Army was on site, offering blankets, food, and hot beverages to both displaced individuals and the emergency teams working in the cold.
The Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire, and updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
