A methamphetamine ring in Walton County has gained attention after a dozen defendants were charged with conspiracy related to drug production and trafficking. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia announced the unsealing of a federal indictment last Wednesday, claiming that large amounts of meth were being produced at a property on 2370 Mountain Creek Church Road in Monroe, Georgia. Authorities searched on August 13, seizing over 4,000 grams of meth in various forms and a significant amount of cash.

Among those arrested, James Len Ramey, 52, of Comer, faces the most serious potential sentence: life in prison with a minimum of ten years, plus a $10 million fine. He is set to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles H. Weigle on November 4. The indictment shows that all the defendants, including Christopher Hyatt, Kendell Cawthon, and others from Georgia, along with several individuals from Mexico and two from Alabama, are facing possible life sentences.

The case against the defendants is the culmination of collaborative efforts by the FBI’s Middle Georgia Safe Streets Gang Task Force, the DEA, GBI, Walton County Sheriff’s Office, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, and the Georgia State Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Morrison is spearheading the prosecution for the Government, sending a clear signal that federal agencies are intent on clamping down on large-scale drug operations within the region.
