In the early hours of Saturday morning, a man and woman became the latest victims of gun violence in Durham, as both were shot around 3:45 a.m. on University Drive. WRAL reports that Durham police found the woman with gunshot wounds, and she was quickly taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. WRAL also noted that the man had been shot and was driven to another location before calling 911. He was later hospitalized with serious injuries.
While details about the circumstances leading up to the incident are limited, the Durham police have been active in their efforts to uncover the truth behind the violent encounter on University Drive. A report from ABC11 clarifies there is still much to learn, as it states, "No further details are available at this time. This is an ongoing investigation."
The News & Observer offered additional insights into the case, noting that authorities had not identified the person who drove the male victim from the scene. The publication provided information for those with any knowledge of the incident to come forward, quoting the police, "Anyone with information about the shooting can contact Investigator D. Bussell at 919-560-4440, ext. 29254, or leave an anonymous tip with CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200." The incentive for public involvement was underscored by the potential for a cash reward: "CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards of up to $2,000 for information leading to arrests in felony cases," according to a statement gained by ABC11.
