Over the weekend, the routine at Eagle Pass Port of Entry was disrupted by a significant drug bust when U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents seized narcotics valued at more than $414,000. According to a report by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, officers at this border crossing in Texas were instrumental in preventing these illicit substances from entering the community.

Last Saturday, CBP officers at the Eagle Pass International Bridge stopped a 2010 Dodge Journey for a thorough inspection. Driven by a 26-year-old American man, the vehicle was flagged for a secondary examination thanks to the vigilance of CBP personnel, including a canine unit and non-intrusive inspection technology. Port Director Pete Beattie praised the officers' efforts, stating that the seizure demonstrates their commitment to stopping illicit narcotics. He also highlighted the ongoing work of Eagle Pass CBP officers in disrupting cross-border drug smuggling attempts.

Upon further physical examination, the officers discovered several packages hidden within the vehicle’s rocker panels. These packages contained what was alleged to be 45 pounds of methamphetamine.

With an estimated street value of $414,765, the narcotics were seized along with the vehicle. After the discovery, the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office arrested the driver and began a criminal investigation.
