Early Friday morning, a blaze ravaged a building within the Pepperwood Knoll apartment complex in North Highlands, causing significant damage to multiple units and displacing around a dozen residents. Firefighters were dispatched to the 4000 block of Lexington Crossing Lane near Glenrose Avenue shortly after 6 a.m., as flames engulfed several apartments, according to ABC10.

"They had heavy fire coming off at least three units. That fire was spreading very rapidly with the intensity and the radiant heat, so much so that it actually started melting the siding on a building adjacent too," Sacramento Metro Fire Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn told ABC10. In light of the situation, firefighters quickly called for additional support to tackle the increasing size of the fire.

Despite the early hour and darkness, no injuries were reported, as all residents were safely evacuated. However, the fire inflicted heavy damage on at least three of the complex's units, with several others suffering from smoke or exterior damage, as per KCRA. Firefighters' prompt response prevented the fire from spreading beyond the affected building.

Speaking on the intensity of the blaze, Wilbourn described it as a "high life hazard," emphasizing the urgency with which fire crews worked to ensure resident safety, a story echoed in an interview with CBS Sacramento. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and Sac Metro has engaged with the American Red Cross to assist those displaced by getting help.
