
On Thursday afternoon, a single-car crash at a Tarzana strip mall resulted in eight people sustaining minor injuries when a vehicle plowed into a coffee shop located at the 18660 block of W. Ventura Boulevard, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the incident which occurred around 3:55 p.m., detailing that seven individuals at the scene declined hospitalization after the assessment of their injuries and the 60-year-old female driver also declined aid after paramedics examined her at the crash site.
Involved in the assessment and response were the LAFD’s Urban Search and Rescue team and the Building and Safety department, ensuring the structure's integrity and addressing immediate safety concerns, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department's alert. The incident, categorized as a Multi-Casualty Incident by LAFD, brought to light that seven patients caught in the episode were either in a vehicle in the parking lot or bystanders fortunately, none sustained injuries that warranted transportation by LAFD's medical teams. The collision raised questions addressed to the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley Division as the investigation moved forward.
A subsequent update posted by the Los Angeles Fire Department at 4:19 p.m. confirmed that all individuals involved, including the driver, declined transportation by LAFD. Their efforts continued to ensure the strength of the building and to carry out any necessary shoring operations while the Los Angeles Building and Safety Department responded for a formal assessment of the businesses affected by the collision.
