The Knoxville community is saying farewell to an Old City favorite as Merchants of Beer prepares to serve its last pour. The well-known airstream bar, recognized for its vibrant dog-friendly patio and beer garden, is slated to close on Oct. 26, as confirmed by statements on Tuesday. According to WVLT, the establishment has been a cornerstone at Summit Hill Drive and Central Street, contributing to the local craft beer movement over recent years.

Owner Thomas Boyd revealed to Knox News that the decision to sell the property had been communicated to his team well in advance, ensuring they had ample time to secure their futures rather than encountering sudden unemployment, he explained in an interview, "The plan for the site is to sell it. That has not happened yet, but since it's coming, I've let my staff know a while back."

Boyd expressed hopes that the property would see greater development, perhaps into something more vertical to maximize downtown space utilization. Although he remains hopeful for the site's future, Boyd himself has moved to New York, stating, "I'm pressing the pause on opening anything brand new right now in the Old City," as per Knox News
