Plumas County Jail escapee Caleb Duerr has been caught after a nearly three-week manhunt. The sheriff's office described him as violent and dangerous. Duerr faced multiple charges, including domestic violence and threats, and had been in jail since his May 24 booking. He escaped on September 27, leading to a multi-agency search, according to KCRA.
Authorities caught Duerr after a tip led them to his home in Johnsville, where he surrendered without resistance. The Plumas County Sheriff's Office confirmed this information, noting that there had been sightings of Duerr at a local auto parts store, which led to shelter-in-place orders for nearby schools.
A coordinated effort amongst local law enforcement, including the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office and Washoe County Sheriff's Office, facilitated the safe capture of Duerr, the ABC10 coverage notes. Law enforcement established a perimeter, and confirmed his presence in the Johnsville home, and their strategic approach resulted in Duerr's capitulation; he walked out of the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
Duerr is back at Plumas County Jail, held without bail. He faces charges of felony threats, domestic violence, and misdemeanor false imprisonment.
