Memphis Zoo experienced some unexpected excitement when Rajesh "Raj" Koothrappali, a male colobus monkey named after a character from the television show "The Big Bang Theory," tried his hand at freedom. The crafty primate made his brief bid for liberty by bending the transport crate door as he was transported from his night house to the hospital, as FOX13 Memphis reported.
Seems like Raj had a better plan for his day than the usual; however, the zoo staff was quick to react, establishing a secure perimeter and removing the guests from harm's way. According to Action News 5, the medical team stepped in to sedate the roaming Raj and escorted him back to his exhibit without incident.
In true academic spirit, Raj, whose name cheekily includes a "PhD," showed off his smarts by staying near his home turf during the adventure. Zoo employees worked diligently to ensure the safety of all involved, promptly closing off the area during the escapade. Zoo officials have affirmed their commitment to monitoring the scholarly simian to confirm his well-being post-escape, as detailed by WREG.
This isn't Raj's first jaunt into the spotlight; indeed, the Louisville Zoo confirmed that our little furry Houdini had already marked his escape artistry there back in 2022. Comfortably back in his exhibit, the zoo is keeping a watchful eye on him, ensuring that Raj's adventures do no harm to his physical or psychological state. As noted by the reports, the zoo's immediate and measured response to the situation reflects the protocols which prioritize everyone's safety, from the free-spirited monkey to zoo guests.
