An Everett man is currently being held without bail and a Lynn teen was arraigned earlier this month in connection to a Roxbury shooting incident on September 4, District Attorney Kevin Hayden's office announced. Romanni Nettles, 23, faced arraignment charges Friday, including unlawful firearm and ammunition possession and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. According to the Suffolk District Attorney's press release, Nettles' bail status will be reviewed in a dangerousness hearing. Princess Garcia, 18, was charged earlier for her alleged involvement.
Despite the discharge of firearms in the incident, there were no reports of injury. Garcia, after an attempted traffic stop, led police on a brief chase through the streets before being apprehended. During the stop, authorities found a .380-caliber firearm on Garcia, with an obscured serial number and six live rounds in the magazine. Meanwhile, Nettles was sitting in the back passenger seat when officers stopped the vehicle, where officers later detected gunshot residue on his pants.
The course of the event unfurled around 10 pm when Boston Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation at 41 Walnut Park and found spent shell casings at several locations nearby. Surveillance footage and ShotSpotter technology pinpointed the timing of the shots that matched the activation, providing crucial evidence that led to the suspects' arrest. The driver and vehicle's identification was pieced together through partial license plate numbers and further surveillance footage depicting the gray Nissan Altima speeding away.
A third individual who was also in a vehicle during the stop has not been charged. In a statement from the district attorney, "I’m grateful that no one was injured or worse in this incident, either by bullets or this driver’s reckless operation on a busy city street," Hayden said. The case is being built on "video evidence to build the strongest case possible," according to the same press release. He warned those who think they can act without facing consequences in Boston.
Both Nettles and Garcia are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Garcia's bail has been set at $750, with a curfew and a ban from the Roxbury area. Her next court appearance is slated for October 25 for a probable cause hearing. The DA's office, serving Suffolk County, emphasizes the dedication to crime prevention and safety within its jurisdiction, handling over 20,000 cases annually and employing a force of over 300 people.
