A fatal collision unfolded on Interstate 94 in Waukesha County, claiming the life of one individual and injuring two others. On Monday afternoon, the westbound lanes of the freeway were shut down as a result of a hit-and-run crash that prompted a full closure near Moorland Road. Following the calamity, traffic was ensnared in significant delays, spanning all the way to the Zoo Interchange, according to FOX6Now.
The catastrophic event transpired shortly after 4 p.m., as reported by FOX6Now, which resulted in an elderly woman's demise. Authorities worked swiftly to reopen one lane by 5:15 p.m., but the Milwaukee County sheriff opted, in their effort to alleviate congestion, for a complete westbound shut down at the Zoo Interchange. This closure caused traffic backups that persisted into the evening.
Meanwhile, JSOnline provided details on the crash itself: a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was struck by an unidentified vehicle, forcing the Jeep to collide with the median wall, become uncontrollable, and ultimately hit the highway's concrete barrier. The perpetrator of the hit-and-run is currently at large, with the Wisconsin State Patrol continuing their search for the driver.
According to TMJ4, three individuals were transported to the hospital following the accident, with one later succumbing to the injuries sustained. In the wake of the collision, ramps from I-41 southbound and northbound to I-94 westbound were also closed, compounding the already heavy traffic challenges faced by commuters and causing extensive delays. The identity of the deceased has not been released as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
