Memphis has once again been marked by the pain of gun violence after five men were wounded in a shooting at an apartment complex. The incident took place yesterday evening, around 5 p.m., at the Robinhood Park Apartments located in the city's Kimball neighborhood, as reported by Action News 5. As law enforcement officials seek the suspect, the community grapples with yet another instance of senseless violence.
The Memphis Police Department responded to the distressing 3600 block of Robin Park Circle after the shooting and discovered four of the victims on the scene. They were promptly taken to area hospitals, suffering from non-critical injuries, according to Local Memphis. The fifth victim sought his own way to Methodist University Hospital, before officers arrived, on foot.
A concern for public safety is heightened as the shooter remains at large. Authorities have released a brief description of the suspect: a Black male clad entirely in black. The assurance of capture and the return of safety hangs by a thin thread in the Kimball community while police implore anyone with information to come forward.
Neighbors describe the prelude to the shooting as an argument between two groups that escalated to violence. "Squad cars and ambulances surrounding the entrance to the Robin Hood apartments," a scene now all too familiar in urban landscapes, was noted by FOX13 Memphis. They reported that the apartment's security guard intervened during the altercation, presumably to quell the tension, but such efforts were not enough to prevent the shots that followed.
Memphis residents are encouraged to help by sharing any information on the incident. To share any information on this incidence residents can call Crimestoppers at 901-528-CASH, in the hopes that justice can unfold in the wake of violence.
