A guard at the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center, identified as Taylor Johnson, has been arrested following allegations of engaging in inappropriate conversations with a 17-year-old inmate. According to FOX 8 Live, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed Johnson's arrest on charges of obscenity and malfeasance in office, noting that no physical contact was determined to have occurred between Johnson and the inmate.
Johnson, 28, worked as a guard since August 2024 and has been terminated from her position, as detailed by the Sheriff’s Office. The investigation began after detention center staff reported the incident to authorities, which rapidly resulted to fully uncover and properly respond to the breed of misbehavior alleged. "I want to thank our staff for their due diligence in the supervision of the juveniles in our custody which resulted in the earliest possible detection of a violation of our facility policy and state statute,” Joseph Dominick, executive director of the detention center, said in a statement obtained by WWLTV. Dominick also expressed gratitude toward the TPSO deputies for their "swift response and action."
The content of the conversation has not been publicly disclosed, but was described to hold inappropriate and lewd context. After being made aware of the unauthorized communications, the staff at the detention center took immediate steps to terminate Johnson's employment and forward information to law enforcement.
In a report by WDSU, Johnson admitted to the inappropriate communication during the investigation. Her arrest is part of a broader policy to uphold the integrity and safety within the juvenile detention system, demonstrating a commitment to rigorously address to proactively prevent any misconduct within the walls of such facilities. Officials have reiterated the importance of maintaining a secure and professional environment for all juveniles in custody.
