The Florissant Valley Fire Protection District hosted a Junior Fire Camp to introduce local teenagers to careers in firefighting and paramedics. The event was for boys and girls aged 13 to 18 and offered hands-on experience in these fields, as reported by KSDK.

The camp aimed to engage youth in the work of first responders. It included skills drills such as hose deployment, search and rescue operations, and vehicle extrication tactics. Kate Freshman of the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District spoke about the importance of early exposure to the fire service, stating "It's really important that we put on camps like this one because we want to get early exposure to the kids on the fire service," in an interview with KSDK.

Teens participated in various scenarios, including how to respond to a car crash, reinforcing the physical and mental skills needed in these demanding professions. First Alert 4 reported on the camp’s efforts to simulate real-life rescues, from search and rescue drills to essential life-saving techniques.

The Junior Fire Camp is designed to equip young people with lifesaving skills. "They're doing forcible entry, they're doing hose deployment, vehicle extrication, CPR. Then, they're also doing search and rescue in our training house," Freshman told KSDK. This event prepares them to be emergency responders and encourages community service and responsibility.

The Florissant Valley Fire Protection District shared updates and photos of the camp's activities on their social media. According to the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District on their Facebook page, "Florissant Firefighters are excited to host its first ever Jr. Fire Camp at Florissant House 1! We are looking forward to an action packed day! Campers are learning CPR, forcible entry, vehicle extrication, search & rescue, and hose deployment skills!"
