Over the weekend, an urgent situation erupted in unincorporated Fontana as deputies interrupted what appeared to be a kidnapping and domestic assault in progress. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, the incident took place at the intersection of Beech Avenue & Hibiscus Avenue on Saturday night, October 19, around 9:40 p.m.
Responding to a call that came into Sheriff’s Dispatch, deputies arrived to find 52-year-old Isidro Contreras in a physical altercation with a 65-year-old woman, who was reported in obvious distress. Contreras, a resident of the area, was allegedly engaged in physically assaulting and threatening the woman, who was trying to end her relationship with him. Deputies were able to detain Contreras without further incident, despite his initial struggle.
The investigation by officials revealed a harrowing tale of intimidation and violence. Contreras had reportedly choked the victim with an object, dragged her by her hair, and issued threats to her life and his own upon the arrival of law enforcement. They believe Contreras was attempting to kidnap the victim with the intent to harm her further. Alongside testimony, physical evidence was found at the scene, including a sharp object that was in Contreras's possession.
Following the arrest, Contreras was booked into West Valley Detention Center and held in lieu of $80,000 bail.
