
A former Monroe County Intermediate School District employee was arrested following a disturbance that quickly escalated into a hostage situation, according to authorities. The incident took place on Friday outside the ISC facility located on S. Raisinville Road, as reported by WXYZ. Sergeant Jason Miller, who was assigned to the school, had been alerted by staff about a man displaying erratic behavior.
After locating the man in a rear parking lot, Sergeant Miller engaged in conversation with him. During the interaction, Miller noted behaviors that made him suspect the individual was armed, ClickOnDetroit details. The situation deteriorated when the man walked off school property and entered a nearby unlocked home, two women and a man were inside at the time.
Inside the residence, the former ISD employee barricaded himself with one of the female occupants in a bedroom, as stated in a news release from Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough obtained by The Monroe News. Deputies surrounded the house and commenced negotiations. They were ultimately forced to break into the room to rescue the hostage and arrest the man, without further incident.
After the incident, the woman taken hostage was treated for minor injuries at Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital. While the suspect has been taken into custody, his identity has not yet been released as charges are pending.
