Last night in Kent County, the pursuit of a speeding Audi A6 led to the arrest of Brandon Thompson, 32, of Frederica, Delaware, for multiple felony offenses. Notably, the Delaware State Police were conducting routine patrol when the incident unfolded, according to a report from Delaware State Police.
The trouble began near Frederica two days ago, Monday, October 14, at approximately 8:00 p.m., when members of the Kent County Governor’s Task Force noticed a vehicle fail to signal a turn on Old Beach Road. This seemingly minor traffic violation escalated into a high-speed chase as Thompson reportedly ignored the detectives' signals and accelerated away, discarding objects from the fleeing car, later confirmed to be bags of crack and powder cocaine. Task Force members continued the pursuit until they stopped the vehicle using stop sticks.
Upon detaining Thompson, the authorities discovered not just the evidence of drugs thrown during the chase, but also drug paraphernalia inside the Audi itself. This led to several charges against Thompson, who was then securely transported to Troop 3, where he was processed and subsequently released after securing bond set at $13,204.
The charges outlined by Delaware State Police list two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, both Tier 2 felonies, along with charges for tampering with physical evidence, disregarding a police officer's signal which are also felonies, and other related traffic and paraphernalia offenses, all of which reflect the gravity of the situation and the multifaceted approach law enforcement must adopt in these scenarios where the immediate danger posed by reckless driving intertwines with the insidious nature of the drug trade.
