A Fresno man has been handed a prison sentence of three years for his part in a string of explosive attacks on vehicles across the city, as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney's office. Scott Eric Anderson, 44, faced a Wednesday judgement after being convicted on several counts, which include conspiracy to destroy property and being a felon in possession of a firearm, adding to his slate of charges involving malicious destruction via explosive devices.
The incidents dated between November 2022 and February 2023 saw Anderson target vehicles, which court records reveal belonged to auto-related businesses on Clinton Avenue, and a vehicle utilized by a home health care business on Fallbrook Avenue in Fresno, this spree of destruction not only disrupted the lives of those whose property was mangled but echoed a dissonance within the spirit of the community. Videos made by Anderson during the commission of these acts served as incriminating evidence alongside the recovery of a pistol from his bedroom; Anderson is prohibited from firearm possession due to a prior conviction for carrying a loaded and concealed weapon, according to details provided by the Department of Justice on their website.
The investigation, which drew to a close with Anderson's sentencing, was a collaborative effort by the Fresno Police Department, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael G. Tierney led the prosecution. The resolution of the case marks an end to a period of tension in the Fresno area as business owners and residents can now breathe a sigh of relief with the knowledge that a source of the chaos has been apprehended and brought to justice.
