An investigation is underway by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) following an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead in Conyers, Georgia. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, did not result in any officer injuries, according to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The confrontation began when Conyers Police Department answered a disturbance call at a Chevron gas station on Sigman Road. There, they encountered a man named Jesse Roach, 40, from Carrollton, GA, who allegedly had threatened the store clerk with a gun—or so the clerk reported on the 911 call. During the attempt to detain Roach, he pushed officers and exited the store. An officer tried to tase him, but Roach, after removing the taser probes, pulled out a gun and fired at the officers, which led to officers returning fire and hitting Roach.

After the exchange of gunfire, Roach was transported to Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. As per protocol, his body will be sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to further investigate the circumstances of his death.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation that will produce a detailed case file for the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office to review. This standard procedure allows for a careful analysis of the shooting's justification.
