Starting Monday, Oct. 14, drivers navigating through Genesee County on southbound I-75 should prepare to adjust their routes. According to an ABC 12 report, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close a lane to facilitate a $500,000 drainage maintenance project between Court Street and Miller Road, shifting afterward down to the US-23 split.
Maintaining the flow of traffic, two lanes will remain open to southbound traffic during the entire duration of the repair work, which MDOT expects to wrap up by Nov. 14. The initial phase will begin near Court Street, rounding up around Oct. 31 before crews set to work on the subsequent section. In a statement obtained by Michigan's official government website, the improvement efforts will encompass not just drainage structures, but also barrier wall repairs.
Economic models suggest that this investment in infrastructure maintenance is slated not only to fortify the road's stability but also to directly and indirectly create to support a handful of jobs—six to be precise. As MDOT outlines, "This closure will allow crews to safely perform drainage work along I-75." Motorists can expect to navigate the altered traffic lanes until the projected completion in mid-November.
