A tragic incident occurred in Terrebonne Parish on Thursday night, resulting in the death of a Gibson man. According to WDSU, 63-year-old Andrew Aker was driving his 2015 Nissan Frontier on North Bayou Black Drive when the vehicle veered across the centerline, leading to a catastrophic series of events that concluded with the car striking a utility pole and becoming submerged in a bayou.
As reported by WWLTV, the accident took place around 7 p.m. near Canrience Pumping Road. Responding troopers found that Aker had not been restrained by a seatbelt at the time of the incident. As a consequence, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional details concerning the cause of the crash have been released thus far.
Further information provided by KQKI News reveals that a standard toxicology sample was collected from Aker and has been submitted for analysis. This part of the investigation will help determine if impairment played a role in the accident. State Police Troop C, which is investigating the crash, used this incident as a moment to remind the public of the dangers of impaired, distracted, and inattentive driving and the life-saving importance of using seat belts correctly on every trip.
