The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is waving a red flag at beachgoers with a strong advisory against ocean water activities at several local beaches. High bacterial levels have prompted officials to caution against swimming, surfing, and beach play in affected areas, as reported by the County of Los Angeles, California.
Warnings span a gamut of popular spots, including but not limited to Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey and Santa Monica Pier. Exceeding health standard levels of bacteria detected in these waters have led to the advisories. The affected areas include the entire swim area at Mothers Beach, 100 yards on each side of the Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach, and similarly restricted zones around other key drainage points and piers, according to the County of Los Angeles, California.
Los Angeles County officials have not only posted warnings around the affected beaches but also provided a hotline for beach conditions, available 24 hours at 1-800-525-5662. For a comprehensive look and updates, the public can visit the Public Health website.
