Last week, a motor vehicle accident in Henderson resulted in the death of a 75-year-old driver. According to the City of Henderson's official news release, the collision occurred on the Friday evening, involving a silver 2007 Toyota Tundra that struck a large boulder off Stufflebeam Avenue near Galleria Drive.
Investigators believe that the driver, traveling at a speed greater than posted, failed to handle the curve and veered off the road, where the vehicle rolled over before coming to a rest against the boulder. Transported to Sunrise Trauma Hospital in serious condition, the driver ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The violent meeting between machine and stone marked this incident as the seventeenth traffic-related fatality in Henderson for the year.
The Henderson Police have noted that while impairment does not appear to be a factor, speed seems to have played a significant role in the crash. As a result of the investigation, eastbound lanes on Stufflebeam Avenue were closed for around three hours. The Henderson Police Department's notice stressed that this is an active and ongoing investigation; hence, no additional information is being released at present.
The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin, but it will be available from the Clark County Coroner’s Office soon. Police encourage anyone with information about the crash to contact the Henderson Police Department or to submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers, with a possible cash reward for information leading to an arrest or indictment.
