In a unified effort to curb the potential devastation that unused medications can wreak within our communities, Hennepin County recently celebrated National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, along with local commissioners and community board members, gathered to collect and properly dispose of over 444 pounds of medications.
The event, detailed in a social media post by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, highlighted the proactive steps taken by the community to prevent medication misuse and to fight against opioid addiction, challenges that continue to plague many. "Thank you to everyone who participated in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day today," the office expressed, exemplifying the collective spirit of responsibility and care.
Participation from public officials also underscored the day's significance. Hennepin County Commissioner Debbie Goettel of District 5, Marion Greene of District 3, and HCSO Community Advisory Board member Marc Laurie were specifically thanked for their presence.
With each pill handed over, the community made a clear statement: the threat of addiction and misuse is one we must confront together, not in isolation, but as neighbors joined in a shared pledge toward health and safety.
