Residents along the northeast Florida coast are facing a High Rip Current Risk in effect through late Tuesday night. A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect until 5 AM EDT Tuesday, indicating the possibility of minor flooding during high tide. These advisories apply to Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Coastal St. Johns, and Coastal Flagler, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service warns dangerous rip currents can unintentionally pull swimmers into deeper waters. Those affected by the coastal flood advisory can expect minor flooding of parking lots, parks, and roads, along with isolated road closures. Officials advise caution and warn against driving through flooded areas or around road barricades.
Authorities strongly advise individuals to swim at beaches with lifeguards. "If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help." The advisory emphasizes that these precautions could help, as even strong swimmers can be affected by rip currents. People are urged to follow local authorities' and weather service advisories to avoid risks and protect properties in flood-prone areas, as stated by the National Weather Service.
