In a fatal series of events that shook Albany, three individuals lost their lives after a high-speed crash following a police pursuit early yesterday morning. The attempted traffic stop on Dawson Road escalated when the driver of a white Mercedes-Benz sedan, clocked at 75 mph in a 40 mph zone, chose to flee, according to the FOX5 Atlanta. The chase ended disastrously when the vehicle became airborne and crashed on Magnolia Street, leading to the death of three passengers and significant injuries to the driver.
The Georgia State Patrol confirmed that the incident occurred at 1:05 a.m. yesterday, with emergency services finding the driver injured within the wreckage. The deceased have been identified as passengers of the ill-fated vehicle, with further investigations by Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team underway. In another grim twist, Atlanta News First reports a potential link between the occupants of the Mercedes and the deadly mass shooting at Albany State University, which occurred a week prior. Investigators found loaded firearms in the car, with preliminary indications suggesting involvement of the deceased in the university violence that claimed one life and injured four others.
Details regarding the possible connection were provided in a statement obtained by Atlanta News First stating, "Per Albany PD preliminary information...the deceased subjects, along with the firearms are believed to be suspects involved in the Albany State University shooting." However, this information remains unconfirmed as the GBI has yet to issue conclusive findings on the matter.
The Albany State University shooting left 19-year-old De’Marion Tayshawn Daniels dead and four others wounded, according to Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler, as noted by Atlanta News First. As the community recovers from the recent violence, authorities are carefully investigating potential links between this and other incidents. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues its efforts to determine the full scope of these events and any interconnections between them.
