A man died from a gunshot wound in the 1100 block of Oaklawn Avenue in the Metro Division. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed they are investigating the homicide that occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday. Officers responded to an assault call and found the injured man upon arrival, according to a CMPD statement.
Emergency personnel from the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC were quickly on the scene but were unable to save the individual's life. The victim, whose identity is yet to be revealed, was pronounced dead at the location. The CMPD Homicide Unit is actively working to piece together the circumstances that led to the violent act. Despite their attempts to methodically gather evidence and information, the perpetrator remains unidentified and at large.
The discovery of the body prompted a swift response from CMPD's Homicide Unit detectives, crime scene investigators, and other supporting services. The ongoing efforts have included processing the crime scene and collecting any relevant physical evidence that could aid in apprehending those responsible for the tragedy. "Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted," the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported.
