The Honolulu Police Department brought a 17-year-old male into custody on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred in Salt Lake on September 19, KTVI reports. The arrest took place at approximately 12:40 p.m. the day prior, where the suspect stands accused of opening fire on three individuals in what could be an instance of near-fatal adolescent bravado swung into violence.
The incident unfolded around 9:00 p.m. on a quiet night last month when, according to police statements, a car passed by a home, and subsequently, an occupant of the car's back seat discharged a firearm multiple times toward three people located in a carport. As tensions rose, one victim retaliated with their gunfire before the attacker's vehicle sped away, fortunately, no injuries were reported. The suspect now faces charges including one count of first-degree attempted murder and three counts of second-degree attempted murder.
Details concerning the suspect's motive and the sequence of events have yet to fully surface. A source from the crime scene indicated a recognition of the individuals involved from school, implying a potential link between the suspect and the victims, according to HPD as reported by KTVI.
Additional information on the case remains scant, but the suspect, a juvenile, has been officially charged with four counts of attempted murder, as confirmed by Hawaii News Now. The Honolulu Police Department has not released further information but promises that the investigation is ongoing and, more details will emerge as they become available.
