Houston is prepping for a switch in weather, as today’s scorching highs are predicted to give way to more temperate conditions post-sunset. The National Weather Service forecasts a high near 95 degrees, with a generally sunny outlook and a light westerly breeze. As the evening encroaches, Houstonians can anticipate a cool down, with a northeast wind picking up to between 10 to 15 mph after midnight, and gusts that may reach as high as 25 mph.
The mercury is set to drop to a low of around 59 degrees tonight, giving residents a break from the heat that's been typical for this time of year. As per the NWS, the rest of the week promises more of a mild climate, with highs hovering in the mid-70s to low 80s and nights cooling down into the 50s and 60s. It’s a welcome deviation for a city that's seen temperatures about 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit above normal recently.
In the wider region, things are relatively calm. The NWS Storm Prediction Center has not forecast any severe thunderstorm areas for today or tonight, indicating a period of steadiness in the atmospheric conditions. Surrounding areas like the Four Corners States might see isolated thunderstorms due to a mid-level low, but severe weather isn’t anticipated.
On social media, NWS Houston posted, "¡Muy Caliente!🥵 Yes, sadly, another hot day is expected today for SE Texas with highs in the mid to upper 90s...about 10-15 deg F above normal 😭." But they also provided a hopeful note, adding "However...a dry cold front will come to our rescue tonight, ushering cool dry air in it's wake overnight 🫶.”

Residents can expect the more agreeable weather to settle in starting Wednesday, and it's likely to be maintained through the start of next week.
