Ellicott City residents can look forward to an improvement in their pedestrian infrastructure as Howard County kicks off a new construction project on Centennial Lane. According to a Howard County press release, the project, scheduled to start on or about November 4th, will install sidewalks and a mid-block crossing to provide safer and more convenient access to Font Hill Wetlands Park.
The undertaking aims to improve current pedestrian safety and forge connections to a possible future pathway leading to Kiwanis-Wallis Park. This measure intends to tackle residents' challenges directly and help them navigate the area safely on foot. Work on the project is expected to wrap up by late November 2024, weather conditions permitting. During the construction phase, which will occur Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., temporary single-lane closures will be implemented to allow passage safely.
Notices about the construction have been posted in the area, and flaggers will be on-site to guide traffic during construction hours. The Howard County government and its partners are focused on keeping traffic safe around the work zones. Motorists are reminded to stay alert for reduced speed limits, narrower lanes, and highway workers.
