A Hyannis man has been taken into custody following a police search that uncovered child pornography at his residence. According to Barnstable Police Department's Facebook page, detectives, along with the United States Secret Service Cyber Fraud Task Force, executed a search warrant on October 8, 2024, leading to the arrest of 65-year-old Joseph Madera on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.
The search was instigated by a CyberTip sent to the Massachusetts State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The tip pointed to a device at Madera's address being used to disseminate illegal material. Reportedly, the on-scene investigation stemmed from at least a single digital device found in Madera's home, which contained child pornography images and videos. The application used to distribute the offensive content was also located.
On the heels of the search and subsequent discovery, Madera was charged with "Possession of Child Pornography" and "Dissemination of visual material of child in state of nudity", as detailed on the official social media announcement. Following his arrest, Madera was booked into the Barnstable Police Department.
After the arraignment on October 9 at Barnstable District Court, a further hearing has been scheduled for November 7, 2024. In the continuous effort to root out such criminal activity, authorities confiscated several digital devices from Madera's residence, which are now subject to examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
