The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued an ocean water use warning for several popular beaches due to elevated levels of bacteria found in the water. The affected sites include some familiar waterfront destinations: Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica Pier, both Inner and Outer Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, and Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu. Specifically, health officials advise to fully avoid swimming, surfing, and playing in the ocean waters at these spots. According to the official bulletin from the county, these locations are a no-go due to bacteria levels that were tested to exceed current health standards.
Meanwhile, warnings have been lifted for the Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach, which is now deemed safe for ocean recreation. These updates come from the most recent sample results indicating that water quality levels satisfy the state's health standards.
