The tight-knit community of Jacksonville Beach has rallied around the victims of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, led by the owner of Angie's Subs, Ed Malin, who has managed an impressive collection of necessary supplies to aid in the recovery efforts, News4Jax reported. With a singular day of gathering donations, Malin announced his plan to leave on Wednesday morning with a convoy pulling trailers filled with much-needed goods like water, diapers, baby formula, and toilet paper.
The appeal for donations was met with overwhelming support as locals brought supplies to Angie’s Subs on Beach Boulevard, "This community absolutely went crazy and stepped up, but you know what it says more about is Americans. I think we step up when every disaster happens around the world," Malin told News4Jax, expressing his admiration for the community's response; Gate Gas generously contributed 500 gallons of diesel fuel to support the journey.
In a similar outpouring of support, described by Action News Jax, one local resident, Jennifer Keskinen, contributed supplies, moved by the plight of her daughter, a nurse, who is enduring the aftermath firsthand, "She’s a nurse and sleeping at the hospital currently doing whatever needs to be done," said Keskinen through tears.
"Yall showed OUT!" exclaimed Malin in a post on Facebook, shared by First Coast News, as he prepared for the early morning departure to Asheville – with enough supplies not for one, but four separate trips, a testament to the generosity of the Jacksonville community while facing the tragic toll taken by Hurricane Helene, which left over 130 individuals deceased across six Southeastern states.
