The Jacksonville area braces for a week characterized by overcast skies, persistent showers, and thunderstorms, along with the potential for tropical storm conditions midweek. Today, residents can expect an 80 percent chance of precipitation, which could lead to between half an inch and three-quarters of an inch of new rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight, the chance of showers is 70 percent, with the possibility of thunderstorms before 10 p.m. The likelihood of rain will decrease as the night progresses. Rainfall accumulations are expected to range from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, with higher amounts possible during thunderstorms.

As Monday approaches, the chance of showers decreases to 20 percent, with partly sunny skies expected and northeast winds potentially reaching 20 mph. Similar conditions will carry into Monday night, with a 20 percent chance of showers after 2 a.m. under partly cloudy skies.

However, by Wednesday, the forecast indicates the possibility of tropical storm conditions. "Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm," the NWS warns about conditions for both Wednesday and Wednesday night, with a 70 percent chance of precipitation.

Alongside the rainy forecast, a coastal hazard message has been issued due to a high risk of rip currents, effective through Monday evening along the beaches of southeast Georgia and northeast Florida. The NWS advises, "Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."
