A teenager sustained critical injuries in a hit-and-run incident on Blanding Boulevard early yesterday morning, reports the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The young pedestrian was crossing the street near Confederate Point Road when a white car struck them.
Witnesses observed the vehicle, described as a white Toyota Yaris or a similarly styled car, momentarily stop in a parking lot to apparently check for damages after the collision. The driver then chose to leave the scene, continuing to drive south on Blanding Boulevard, effectively failing to offer aid or await authorities, informed News4JAX.
Following the hit-and-run, the injured teen was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. As of now, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has made an appeal to the public, urging anyone with information regarding the driver or the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has yet to identify the driver who decided to abandon the crash scene. They have asked anyone who might have witnessed the incident or has knowledge of the white car's whereabouts to contact them immediately. Our investigators are going through all leads and are soliciting the public's help in locating the suspect responsible for this serious crime, an officer mentioned in a statement obtained by First Coast News.
The JSO stresses the importance of this civic responsibility, especially when it involves potential injuries to pedestrians. More details will be forthcoming as the investigation progresses, with Action News Jax providing updates on the teen's condition and the search for the hit-and-run driver.
