Twelve-thousand-pound monster trucks are rolling into downtown Jacksonville next weekend, with Monster Jam staging three shows at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena on September 5 and 6. Two performances are set for Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., followed by a single Sunday show at 1 p.m., bringing racing, two-wheel skills competitions and freestyle stunts to the arena floor at 300 A. According to Action News Jax, general public ticket sales opened May 12 following an advance pre-sale period reserved for registered preferred customers, and tickets remain available through Ticketmaster.com. What Fans Will See Inside the Arena

Rather than a traditional judging panel, Monster Jam lets the crowd decide who wins the skills and freestyle competitions. Fans log into JudgesZone.com on their phones, enter a show-specific three-digit code, and submit scores from 1 to 10 within a 20-to-30-second window after each run — a system Monster Jam uses to help determine the champion in real time, the same mechanic the Action News Jax report notes will let fans score driver performances throughout the Jacksonville shows.

The trucks themselves are engineering monsters in their own right. Standard Monster Jam vehicles generate roughly 1,500 horsepower from supercharged 540-cubic-inch engines that burn methanol at about three gallons per minute, riding on 66-inch-diameter BKT tires that weigh 645 pounds apiece, according to The Drive.
