The Cleveland County Board of Commissioners has recently brought a new face into the fold, choosing to unanimously appoint John B. Wullich Jr. to sit on both the county's excise and equalization boards. The role, earmarked to commence on September 26, saw the Norman business owner quickly sworn in and ready to undertake the responsibility of overseeing and approving budgets and handling ad valorem tax protests. According to the county's announcement, Wullich is poised to start serving his community in this new capacity to assist in the stewardship of taxpayer funds.

Functioning at a local government level, the excise board is key in ensuring financial propriety; the body quite literally works to ensure figures balance out and that each county officer is allotted funding that aligns strictly with state law requirements. The equalization board, meanwhile, holds the vital job of ensuring property assessments throughout Cleveland County are carried out with fairness and accuracy.

Wullich, a native of Norman High School and a dedicated local entrepreneur of Dara Marie's Bakery and Gift Boutique for a quarter-century, brings a diversified portfolio of experience to the table. Previously, he spent 15 years running a local concrete business and continues to contribute to his community as a Deacon at Norman’s Immanuel Baptist Church. Commissioner Jacob McHughes, representing District 2 from which Wullich hails, has expressed his elation about the appointment. "On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, I'm excited to extend a warm welcome to John Wullich. As a successful local businessman and a valued member of our community, John's unique insights and commitment to our county will be a tremendous asset to the excise and equalization boards," McHughes conveyed in a statement, as per Cleveland County News.

Joining the ranks alongside Wullich are board chairman Chuck Thompson and vice-chairman Josh Edge, both of whom have long-standing roots in the county. Thompson's tenure began post-University of Oklahoma in 1978 at Security National Bank in Norman, now culminating as Managing Partner and President of American Investment Group. Edge, with over a decade at Armstrong Bank under his belt, is dedicated to supporting his community. These three members are collectively tasked with the dual role of serving Cleveland County on both the Board of Equalization and Excise Board.
