In Kaua'i, firefighters have been tackling two separate brush fires in the Anahola area. One fire, covering about 1 acre, was near the Anahola Marketplace along Kuhio Highway, while the larger fire, measuring 5,000 square feet, was located in Mauka near Kalalea Road. Both fires are now under control, according to local authorities.
Traffic around Kuhio Highway near Anahola Marketplace was affected by road closures due to the fires, but now that the fires are under control, the roads have reopened. The Kaua‘i Fire Department, with firefighters from Kapa‘a and Kaiakea fire stations still on site, is monitoring for any signs of reignition. "Air 1 is on standby," stated the County of Kaua‘i.
The Kaua‘i Police Dispatch first reported a fire at 1:05 p.m., followed by a second fire less than an hour later before 2 p.m. The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is monitoring the situation. More updates will be provided as they become available.
