Kent County has launched Operation Green Light, a campaign aimed at showing support for veterans by lighting up homes and buildings with green bulbs during the week leading up to Veterans Day. According to WOODTV.com, the initiative, which runs from Nov. 4 through Nov. 11, encourages community involvement in honoring veterans while highlighting resources available to them.
Ryan Grams, the Director of Kent County Veterans Services, detailed the campaign's significance, "We are excited to shine a green light across Kent County and honor our veterans," Grams stated. The annual Veterans Day Parade is slated for Nov. 11, beginning at 7 p.m. at Lyon Street and Ottawa Avenue in Grand Rapids, offering a chance for public participation in the commemorative efforts, as reported by WOODTV.
Operation Green Light is also a call to action for local involvement. Kent County Veterans Services is encouraging residents and businesses to actively take part by lighting their properties green and spreading the word. Reports indicate that the green light also represents the wide range of support services available to veterans, such as assistance with disability claims and emergency rent help. These services are crucial for veterans looking to readjust and thrive after service.
Furthermore, the county is providing ways for locals to show support beyond just lighting up in green. As noted by the same AccessKent.com announcement, community members are encouraged to purchase green bulbs and download promotional materials, like posters and social media images to urge others to join the initiative.
