Emmy winner Kyra Sedgwick is heading to Novi. The actress best known for playing the head of an elite detective unit that solves homicides on TNT's The Closer has been announced as a celebrity guest for Motor City Comic Con's fall 2026 convention, running November 13 through November 15 at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace.
Sedgwick is scheduled to attend the Novi convention on Saturday and next Sunday, according to MLive, whose reporting on the new guest addition first detailed her appearance. Beyond The Closer, the outlet notes Sedgwick's credits include Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Phenomenon, Something to Talk About, Born on the Fourth of July, and Singles — a resume that spans network sitcoms, prestige cable drama, and big-screen work opposite some of Hollywood's biggest names.
An Emmy and a Golden Globe on Her Mantel
Sedgwick's Closer role earned her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2010, following five consecutive nominations, along with a 2007 Golden Globe Award, according to the Television Academy. The Closer aired for seven seasons from 2005 to 2012 and cemented Sedgwick's status as a cable drama anchor. She and her husband, Kevin Bacon, also attended the 83rd Annual Golden Globes together in January, a pairing MLive's report ties into her Hollywood profile.
Sedgwick joins an already crowded fall roster that includes Martin Sheen, known for The West Wing; William Fichtner, known for Prison Break, The Dark Knight, and Armageddon; and Sonic the Hedgehog voice actor Jason Griffith, all announced as celebrity guests for the November convention. Also on the list are Juliet Landau, James Marsters, and Ross Marquand — the latter known for Avengers: Infinity War and The Walking Dead — plus Elizabeth Yu, Maria Zhang, and Ian Ousley, according to the same MLive report.
Reunions Anchor the Fall Weekend
The fall lineup leans heavily on cast reunions from cult-favorite dramas. Motor City Comic Con is offering a duo photo opportunity pairing Southland co-stars Michael Cudlitz, who played Officer John Cooper, and Shawn Hatosy, who played Officer Sammy Bryant, according to Motor City Comic Con. Southland ran from 2009 to 2013 across NBC and TNT, and Cudlitz is also known for Band of Brothers.
Hatosy, whose credits also include The Pitt and Animal Kingdom per MLive, will additionally appear alongside Jake Weary for what the convention says marks the first-ever joint convention appearance for the two Animal Kingdom co-stars — Hatosy played Pope Cody, and Weary played Deran Cody — as well as Weary's first comic convention appearance overall. Animal Kingdom concluded its six-season run on TNT in 2022.
One Tree Hill fans get their own reunion moment, with a duo photo opportunity pairing James Lafferty, who played Nathan Scott, and Chad Michael Murray, who played his on-screen half-brother Lucas Scott. The two starred together on the WB and CW drama from 2003 to 2012.
Tickets, Venue, and What's Still Unannounced
Motor City Comic Con calls itself Michigan's largest pop culture event, and general admission and advance tickets are already on sale, along with photo op packages for the various guest pairings. Pricing for the November convention ranges from $38 for a Friday pass up to $105 for a weekend adult pass, with VIP Fan Passes running $285 and including fast-pass line access for autographs and photo ops.
The event returns to the Vibe Credit Union Showplace in Novi, the venue formerly known as the Suburban Collection Showplace before a 25-year naming rights deal took effect in January, as FOX 2 Detroit reported when the rebrand was announced. The Novi facility ranks as the second-largest convention center in Metro Detroit after Huntington Place, with more than 600,000 square feet of space across a 55-acre complex.
Motor City Comic Con traces back to 1989, when comic book retailer Michael Goldman launched it at the Dearborn Civic Center with roughly 2,500 attendees. It has grown into a twice-yearly fixture, moving to its current Novi home in 2005 and now drawing between 50,000 and 70,000 visitors per staging. Specific daily panel and individual photo op schedules are typically finalized only two to three weeks before the event, so those details for November are not yet locked in.
