In a decisive move to address conduct concerns within its police ranks, the city has ushered in a new phase of leadership. City Manager Mike Steigerwald accepted the resignation of Police Chief Betty Holland, ushering in Major Robert Anzueto as the Interim Chief of Police. This follows a critical letter from the State Attorney's Office highlighting several officers' questionable truthfulness and conduct. The change will take effect tomorrow, as announced in a statement by the City of Kissimmee.
Anzueto, stemming from the Orange County Sheriff's Office and carrying over 30 years of experience, has been specifically chosen to spearhead the department's response to the concerns raised by the State Attorney's Office and an upcoming Grand Jury presentation. The collaboration with the Sheriff's Office, as noted by Steigerwald, has been instrumental during the transition, providing a leadership figure to command a department comprised of more than 250 sworn and civilian members.
The shake-up in the hierarchy has seen Holland stepping down and Deputy Chief Camille Alicea resigning in her wake. Following Steigerwald's directives, Detective Jonathan Fernandez and Officer Milagros Sanchez were on administrative leave. At the same time, Corporal Justin Lunsford has been transferred out of the Professional Standards Section, having been involved with the State Attorney's grievances. All actions reflect the city's dedication to maintaining a police department rooted in integrity, accountability, and trust.
