An overnight fire in Knox County was quickly managed before it could cause extensive damage to the home. The fire occurred in the Halls community on Halsdale Road. Rural Metro Fire’s Jeff Bagwell reported that the fire started in a bedroom and spread to the attic but was contained before causing more than smoke and heat damage to the house, according to WVLT.
No injuries were reported as all individuals were safely evacuated. Bagwell emphasized the importance of fire safety, especially in colder weather when the use of portable heaters and candles increases. Despite the potential for greater harm, officials found “with the occupants safely outside, they were able to attack the fire and stop it with only smoke and heat damage to the majority of the house,” Bagwell told WATE.
A social media post from the department exhorted residents to "unplug all portable heaters at night and blow out all candles." This safety measure is particularly pertinent as Knoxville temperatures plunged into the 30s overnight, and surrounding counties were on frost advisory.
In their alert, Rural Metro did not specify the exact cause of the Halls fire. For those seeking more information or interested in supporting the fire service, the Rural Metro Fire stated, "please call our 24-hour Membership line at 865.371.7495 to learn more."
