Residents in Knoxville can expect a break in the clouds today after a foggy start this morning, with the National Weather Service forecasting a high of 74 degrees; a plush jump up from the current overcast 57 degrees that led off the day. The humidity is pegged at a full 100 percent, so though the wind is calm now, that same breathlessness may leave the dew-heavy grass feeling like a sopping wet handshake till the sun asserts itself, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service.
Looking ahead to tonight, the crystal ball held by the National Weather Service shows the fog rolling back after 5 a.m., leaving skies partly cloudy and a low near a nippy 50 degrees calm wind, yet patchy fog is expected to revisit us before 10 a.m. the following Tuesday, perhaps as a closing act of October's temperamental weather play, after which mostly cloudy conditions will yield to gradual clearing and a day's high that's inching up to a nearly summer-like 78 degrees.
Knoxville's weather is looking good as the week goes on. Wednesday will be sunny with a high near 80 degrees. A gentle breeze from the southwest will pick up a bit in the afternoon, reaching about 5 mph, as per the National Weather Service.
Come Thursday, it's shades and short sleeves again with a mostly sunny outlook and high flirting with 79, even as the wind grows bolder, gusting as high as 20 mph, good news for the kite-flyers but maybe less so for the weary hat-wearers on the walking tours; looking towards evening, however, there's a change afoot, as a 40 percent chance of showers creeps into the forecast post-2 a.m, as per the National Weather Service.
Bringing ourselves to the fringe of the weekend, Friday might dampen spirits and the ground with morning showers before clearing up to a mostly cloudy 70 degrees, transitioning into a partly cloudy night with mild 53 degrees whereas Saturday through Sunday ushers in the largely clear to mostly sunny days highs rising towards the mid-70s.
